Windsurfing in Singapore

Windsurfing is very famous in Singapore. It is one of the famous water sports. The sport is very adventurous and always tries to keep you on your toes. The game involves high risk. The wind can be enjoyed on your face. The cold is very enjoyable while windsurfing in Singapore. Windsurfing carries an unusual mixture of surfing and sail at the same time. There are few sports that can offer you this experience. It is advisable that the surfer should have proper balance and power to practice this sport in Singapore. Windsurfing is a life-time experience sport. But the condition is you have to have a very good control and can easily cope up with the rapidly changing speeds of wind and sea water.

If you are a beginner you can have an instructor or trainer to help you out. Morning is the time for the beginners. Generally the breeze is calmer in the morning that suits the beginners of the game. You can easily manage gentle breeze and calmer water if doing for the first time. Windsurfing is the sports for the brave hearts that needs good physique to manage on the sea winds.

This year’s Singapore National Windsurfing Championship will take place over the weekend i.e. on Saturday-Sunday. The dates are 25-26 July 2009 at the National Sailing Centre.

In Singapore, the best season for windsurfing is especially during the two monsoon seasons i.e. SW monsoon from the month of July-October and NE monsoon from December-Febraury. In these months the wind picks up to about 12 knots. A typical sail size is 9-12 m. On the East Coast of the island, three clubs are located. These are stretching from south of Bedok Jetty all the way up in the direction of Changi. The names of the clubs are People’s Association Sea Sports Club, Pasta Fresca sailing club and SAFRA Sea Sports Club.
