Singapore Badminton Association was founded in the year 1929. In present days it has a home of its own while several thousand badminton enthusiasts follow the game in Singapore. In 1948, active preparations were made for Malaya including Singapore to compete for the first time in the Thomas Cup. The competition was held in the year 1949.

In February 1951, Singaporeans chose Guillemard Road for the building of a hall. This was meant as a venue of the Thomas Cup finals organized in the year 1952. The hall became a reality in 1952. It was become possible after so many problems and leaving the Association very much in the red. The Association could not even pay the exact amount.
